Explain with diagram the active and passive systems for heating a building using solar energy?

Friends, today in this article we will learn  about active and passive systems for heating buildings with solar energy.  I am going to give you information about all these in a very good way. So let’s start.

We can heat houses etc. with the help of solar energy. In this, we can heat the house by absorbing heat through suitable medium like water or air.

There are two methods for this-

Active System

In this method, the solar collector is a separate part that heats water or air. The thermal energy is collected by a storage method and then the hot air is delivered to the rooms by a heat distribution system. Thus, the following are the parts of this system-

(a) Flat Plate Collector- Which converts solar energy into heat energy to heat water or air.

(b) Storage Tank- Solar energy is stored in it so that when solar energy is not available directly, it can be used from the storage.

(c) Auxiliary Energy Sources – When energy is not available directly and the thermal energy in storage is exhausted, auxiliary energy sources make up for this deficiency.

(d) Controls – Valves, thermostats, etc. to control the flow of air or water and to control the temperature.

(e) Heat Distribution System – It contains necessary pumps, fans, radiators etc.

passive system

In this method, pumps, fans or blowers etc. are not used, in this the solar thermal energy is sent to different rooms of the house in a simple natural way.

In this, a special wall of the house is made towards the south on which the solar surface is installed. This wall is known as trombe wall. It has a black concrete wall behind it which absorbs maximum solar energy. There are two holes or holes in the upper and lower part of the wall. Both the holes are kept open during the day. Solar energy is collected by the surface. The cold air of the room which enters the room through the lower hole is heated by the thermal energy between the wall and the solar surface and goes into the room through the upper hole and keeps the room warm. At night, both the holes remain closed so that the warm air of the room does not get lost.

What did you learn today :-
