Advantages

Disadvantages
These machines cannot be made of greater height because there are problems of long shaft, bearing, long wires.
(ii) Being made of solid metals, they are very heavy.
Darrius Machine (High Velocity Wind)
It was invented by G.J.M. Darrius in 1925 and is known as high wind velocity machine. A lot of research and development work is going on in this field at BHL, Hyderabad and NAL, Bangalore. The support of their blades is such that the bending stress is reduced on bending.
These blades have a fixed chord length and are of air foil section. Both ends of the foil are attached to a perpendicular shaft, which prevents the wind force with stiffness. Because of this, the blades are made low weight or lighter.
