Explain the various problems of alternating traction system and how to solve them?

Friends, today in this article  I am going to give you information about the various problems of alternating traction system  in a very good way. So let’s start.

The major problems in the alternating traction system and their solutions can be explained through the following points-

  1. Unbalance in electric supply lines
  2. Interference in telecommunication line

To overcome these losses, some precautions are kept in mind. Single phase traction load causes imbalance in both current and voltage. Due to imbalance of current, the winding of the alternator providing electric power gets heated.

These effects of unbalanced current can be removed in the following ways

  1. The three phases are balanced by connecting the electrical traction load to separate substations in the order RY, YB, BR of the three-phase supply respectively.
  2. The supply system is derived from very high voltage substations.
  3. The alternator can also be protected from damage due to unbalanced current by increasing the capacity of the supply system.
  4. Where the value of unbalance current exceeds the limit, the value of current can be reduced by using Scott connection transformer at the substation.

Impediments in telecommunication lines are caused by electrostatic and electromagnetic induction. These losses are removed in the following manner-

For this, the induced voltage is reduced to 60V using an isolation transformer.
